Our Venue

Welcome to the AIM Center, our breathtaking venue for the Turiya Yoga Inner Evolution Program. Nestled in the heart of the Okanagan Valley, where the majestic mountains meet the glistening waters of Lake Okanagan.

"Turiya is the ability to posture oneself as the observer of life's experiences with acceptance and neutrality. When I cultivate the observer, life becomes one big adventure of 'what's gonna happen next'. I've known Tyler for about 5 years, but it feels like I've known him all my life. He is an incredibly wise, incredibly humble teacher and he is always honouring the teaching in everyone and everything. I love, appreciate and respect Tyler and I would recommend his Turiya Yoga to anyone who wants more out of this life. Much love and peace to you as you journey and I hope to see you in class."

Here’s a small preview of what we’ll be diving into…

The fundamentals of yogic principle is where everybody should start. As a group we will contemplate and discuss what it means to live a lifestyle which is harmonious and ethical, connected to all that exists, and steeped in the presence of the moment through a constant stream of observation to all that is. You will learn yogic cleansing practices to help transform your energetic system, helping it to release, invigorate and inspire. You will also learn how to cleanse your minds and release repetitive thought patterns.

What these practices really are is a way of living that is in alignment with the different cycles of Mother Earth and our solar system such as solar cycles, moon cycles, and the 4 seasons. We will alchemize our potential by gathering in ceremony on specific solar and lunar dates throughout the whole 6 month program. These dates are important for freeing or releasing old patterns and awakening dormant pockets of energy. This feels like gaining a new perspective on life, being renewed, reborn, revitalized, completely connected to all that is.

We’ll also be discussing duality and how many beings are operating on a dualistic plane. This is the framework for learning and understanding what it is that we experience. Through the balancing and then the unification of these polarities, we come into a state of oneness, union, and that is the aim of all that everything you just read on this website page.

Through the practice of asanas (physical yoga postures), we cultivate awareness of the body and a deep relationship to what’s really going on from the inside. People always say "how do I know what I really feel like inside”? This is the way - asana and pranayama . It is what will allow us to become more sensitive in a balanced way so that we can speak with ourselves and come into harmony with ourselves.

A big part of yoga is the chakras. They’re a map of your energetic system, or the major conjunctions of energy that are existing through the many layers of your being. Working with the chakras allows you to pinpoint areas that are in need of healing and may be contributing to the imbalances in your daily life (work, relationships, thought patterns etc). Through the alignment of these chakras, disease can be greatly diminished or even disappear.

Have you ever heard of nāda yoga? What is nāda yoga? Vibrations of mantras, instruments and/or vocal toning are powerful. The sound waves flow directly through your physical system, allowing for deep rejuvenation in a short space of time. Mantra will be a consistent theme throughout the whole program because chanting in community is very powerful. Mantra is one of the greatest (and most fun) ways to reach enlightenment. It creates focus for the mind and as you all know, where attention goes, energy flows. Many beings have found great bliss chanting and dancing, moving into an ecstatic state of bliss where one is entirely in the moment, expressing joy and love.

We will also be learning all about Kundalini Shakti, including what it is, how it moves, and how to practice the techniques safely. Everybody has kundalini energy within them, but not everybody has the same level of access to it. Through the graceful and devoted practices, one will harness all that is necessary to awaken and integrate your limitless potential.

The most important part of this development is that you are able to integrate it so that you can hold this feeling for eternity, rather than it just be another life happening that is forgotten about in 6 months. To support this evolution, there will be optional gatherings scheduled outside of our regular scheduled weekends that are designed to facilitate consistent growth and foster a loving community between all teachers. These activities will consist of things like nature walks and hiking, enjoying the beach and lake in the summer months, group meals and special events on auspicious days that follow the solar and lunar calendars.

Integration is of utmost importance for this process, which means that rest must be done in a conscious manner so that things are not overworked and you don’t burn out. I take a very nurturing approach when it comes to restorative and relaxation practices. Throughout this profoundly deep work, it is of the utmost importance to monitor your system and allow things to grow naturally rather than forcefully.

"I highly recommend Tyler to both anyone who is beginning to explore meditation as well as those who are well along their journey. He had a transformative experience and through it, one senses he has touched the divine, and he brings that out in each class - but he doesn't mystify the process - he makes it accessible with his frank, forthright and jovial nature. His laughter fills a room but he ego does not. He will step aside and allow you to have a deep personal experience. I highly recommend him. I would jump at any chance to be taught by this true master."

Tyler De Freitas

I have been focused on the profoundness of the human experience that we call life for almost a decade! I’m motivated by the beauty of the moment, always listening and learning and sharing the wisdom of my many Teachers and Mentors.

After a profound inner experience, I found my life completely changed in every way. This lead to a release of all that I had worked for and all that I thought I was as a person so that I could step into who I truly am.

Not long after this profound experience, I attended a Kundalini Yoga class and it was love at first kriya. I bought a 20 punch pass and started regularly attending classes. That lead me to Iyengar Yoga and eventually my first teacher training in Kripalu Yoga. From there I started teaching some crazy amount of classes a week, easily 12-15 classes each week.

After that I travelled around and started meeting international teachers and experiencing immersive multi-day programs and retreats. These continued to refine my skills in transmission and translation of the experience of union.

My next yoga teacher training was in Kundalini Yoga and that was followed by my most recent yoga teacher training at Anuttara Ashram learning traditional tantra from my guru bhairav through the shivoham lineage of guruji maharaj.

   Sadhana

We’ll be doing group Sadhana, where specific practices such as breathwork, asana (physical postures), meditation and mantra will be assigned as a daily practice.

There are certain sadhanas designed to unlock a specific portion of awareness, creating more connection, energy and ease of life. There is also daily sadhana that is meant to maintain and keep one on track. Both are imperative to realization.

Teaching should not be a profession - it must be a passion. Only then can education move from imposition of fact to exploration of truth.

Special Guest Teachers

James McEwan

James McEwan is an experienced yogi and musician with a devotion to self-realization. From an early age, music has been a love in his life, and when he began practicing yoga to ease the wear and tear of his professional hockey career, he quickly connected with the sacred sound of Sanskrit mantras. Fascinated by Bhakti Yoga and Kirtan, James dedicated himself to learning the ancient teachings of yoga, attending teacher trainings, and traveling to India to learn from the masters. Now, James shares his knowledge and devotion to yoga and music through Kirtan concerts, workshops, and classes, creating a truly unique and transformative experience for all.

James will be offering a Mystic Mantra Workshop where you will discover the power of your sacred sound and tap into the wisdom of the ancient yogis in this transformational workshop. This is the practice of Bhakti Yoga. Let’s come together and learn the history of mantras and experience the transformative, healing power of chanting, activating our authentic sounds. This workshop is designed to help you experience the practice of Bhakti, and teach you how chanting the mantra is an effective tool for self-transformation, strengthening your sadhana, increasing life-force energy, and becoming your most powerful self.

Marissa Young

Marissa Young was born and raised in the prairies of Treaty 6 land with skies of blue and fields of gold. She has worked in the health and wellness industry for many years. Studying, learning and educating different medicines to heal the body, mind + spirit. Marissa's current offerings are Tarot, Holy Fire Reiki, Spirit Sessions, Environmental Space Cleansing, Evolutionary Astrology and Mystic Mentorship. All of her work is based on both education and her own personal practice over the past 13 years. She incorporates working with spirit, or mediumship, into all of her offerings.

For the Turiya Yoga Program, Marissa will be teaching and speaking to Evolutionary Astrology, which is a type of astrology that invokes the karmic path and soul development of one’s lifetime. It focuses on the soul’s evolution and purpose, offering insight into past lives and patterns which may come to the surface to be healed. The Lunar Nodes are an area of focus to reveal the tools your soul came into this lifetime with and where you’re meant to go moving forward.

Everyone experiences recurring and often painful challenges in their lives. In the world of the Evolutionary Astrology, such recurring themes are viewed as the thread which weaves together your past and current life. Psychospiritual healing can result from acknowledging past life patterns and understanding that our soul came into this lifetime with a blueprint in which we can experience forgiveness, self-discovery, enlightenment, and an overall enrichment of life.

"I met Tyler on a whim when I decided to sign up for his 8 month yoga course. I thought I would just learn more about yoga... I didn't think I was going to learn more about myself, but I did. The meditation practices help you to look deep within yourself to find the strength that you need. This has been immensely helpful in many areas of my life including my daily life, work life, relationship management and even pain management.

If you're looking for a path... or some guidance that will set you on a road to help you fill yourself, or to help you fullfill what you think you need, then I would highly recommend Yogi Tyler. "

For the Turiya Yoga Inner Evolution program, Gilly and Dianna will be leading us in a sacred Sweat Lodge Ceremony in the Lakota tradition. The Sweat Lodge Ceremony is a sacred time of connecting with our Ancestors and our Creator through prayer. The lodge itself is a dome structure which represents the womb of Mother Earth. The main purpose is to purify our thoughts, bodies and emotions. A fire is built outside where 29 rocks or “grandfathers” are heated for hours. 7 grandfathers are brought into the centre pit of the lodge for each of the 4 rounds which last approximately 20 to 40 minutes. Each round is started with a song accompanied by drums or rattles and we acknowledge the 4 aspects of our being: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual, the 4 directions, the 4 races, the 4 elements, and the 4 stages of life, following the traditions of the sacred medicine wheel. Learn more about the Sweat Lodge here.

Kelly Day

Kelly is a 1000 + ERYT with a deeply woven understanding of hatha, vinyasa, and anusara yoga.

Her path is one that is multifaceted and layered through her study of different lineages, mentorships and training as well as lived experience. She believes that we all have the capacity to be our own teachers and healers, and that we all arrive at the same place in a different and unique way.

For the Turiya Yoga Inner Evolution Program, Kelly will be offering a glimpse into developing an asana practice from a place of subtle body understanding and energetics. Together we will take a deep dive into the principles of skeletal alignment, combined with the more subtle activations required to animate and bring our practice to life.

Our bodies are the containers of wisdom and intelligence. Asana prepares us for the seat of meditation so we may access that intelligence. By working to clear the lines of congestion that have created density in the body, we prepare a space for the mind to rest into. When we learn the art of opening the body in a skillful, harmonious, and subtle way, our capacity to receive information increases and our sensitivity heightens.
